About Ali

Ali is a Turkish-born British musician, a versatile multi-instrumentalist, music producer, recording and performing artist, and scholar of the music economy, based in London, UK. Having recorded and performed with leading musicians and bands across Europe, Ali has absorbed a rich variety of musical styles, which he continues to reflect in his performances through his distinctive playing.

Ali earned his B.Mus. in Music Fundamentals from Ege University in Izmir, Turkey. He later shifted his academic focus to the economics of music and completed two Master’s degrees: an MA in Music and the Creative Economy and an M.Res. in Small Business and Management Research, both at Kingston Business School in London. He currently lectures postgraduate students at Kingston University on self-employment, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and marketing in the music industries.

He is also pursuing a PhD that explores the artistic labour market experiences of immigrant musicians in London’s cultural scene. As a researcher, he is passionate about artistic labour markets, self-employment and freelancing in music, and the working lives of artists.

Ali is a member of several respected academic and professional organisations. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). He is also affiliated with the Creative Industries Federation, the International Music Business Research Association, and the British Postgraduate Philosophy Association.

Outside of music and academia, Ali enjoys capturing images of nature, architecture, and urban life. He also experiments with cinematography and filmmaking, and travels whenever his schedule and budget allow.
